How to Avoid the Scholarship Cheaters
Majority of the students have a desire to get the student scholarship to pay for education. As there are thousands of students who are applying for scholarships, there appeared many cheaters, who deceive the applicants and earn money on the troubles of other people. The main method of the cheaters is the imitation of the scholarships programs which are provided by the government, different corporations, charitable foundations which the aim to get some money from the students without giving free money in response. Below the most widespread techniques of the scholarship cheaters are described. The students must know about these false programs and avoid them.
The first characteristic of the false program is the request to pay some money during the process of application. Different cheaters give different name to this money: entrance fee, application fee, judging fee, administrative fee etc. Besides, they may request the candidates to pay for receiving a copy of application or for additional information about scholarship program. On the next stage of application process, the cheaters can send the applicants requests concerning the additional fee. In this case they inform the candidates that they won the scholarship, but to receive it they have to pay so – called “redemption” or “disbursement” fee. In any case if the students receive the request to pay the money for the scholarship, which they have to win, it is a signal of fraud.
Besides, the candidates must take into account that the scholarships are usually tax – free. Only case when the students have to pay the tax, is if they use the scholarship’s money for other expenses besides the tuition fee, such as buying a computer or paying for room’s rental.
One more method which is used to deceive the students is the request to disclose the number of student’s bank account or number of credit card with the intention to transfer scholarship’s costs there. This information if confidential and can not be disclosed to other people.
So if the student wants to avoid the cheaters, he has to ignore those offers which request to pay money for scholarship and to disclose the confidential bank information.
